Moto Z2 Play Review: Unlimited Possibilities

Since Lenovo bought Motorola, we are getting smartphones with uniqueness. Each and every one of their smartphone has it’s own unique feature. Or if you consider the Moto G family, we are getting better and better budget smartphone.

Last time, we talked about Moto G5 Plus and Moto E3 Power. Both of them are budget smartphone. Now lets Go Beyond that. Here in this blog I am going to talk about their smartphone Moto Z2 Play. Flagship smartphone of Moto is going to be Moto Z2, so this is an alternate version of that in a way.

The Moto Z2 Play – the smartphone that strikes the perfect balance between style and performance. Powered by a powerful octa-core processor and compatible with Moto Mods, the Moto Z2 Play opens up new possibilities.

The intuitive Android Pure Nougat OS lets you use multiple apps in split-screen mode, so you can get more done in no time. So Moto Z2 Play opens up a whole new world of possiblities. It is the perfect tool to make the most out of entertainment.

Metal Unibody Design

The Moto Z2 Play is super slim smartphone with only 5.99 mm of depth. It is all metal unibody design, which makes the look of it just great. As far as protection goes, the screen comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Also the there is water repellent nano coating, which gives you the best of both the worlds – durability and style. The Moto Z2 Play’s 5.5 inch Full HD Super AMOLED Display is encased within the sleek metal frame.

Rear Camera & Camera Hump

The Moto Z2 Play has 12 MP rear camera, which has a pixel size of 1.4 µm and an aperture ratio of f/1.7. So, it lets you capture beautiful moments in crystal clear details.

The Moto Z2 Play also feature PDAF Laser auto focus and dual pixel auto focus, which make for clear and blur free photos. A Correlated Temperature (CCT) dual LED flash ensure that you can capture bright images even when it is dark.

Since there are no bigger issues to complain about camera, I would say about Camera Hump. The camera hump is similar to what we have seen on Moto G5 Plus, It is the same case scenario here too.

if that camera hump wasn’t there either as you can not use tap on display, while it’s flat on a surface without having it wobble and it would have been better if the dimple was not replaced by the raised Moto logo.

But it is not bad if you use Moto Mods with it. It will just cover the camera hump and it will look nicer with it, so do not worry about that much.

Front Camera

The Moto Z2 Play has a 5 MP front camera to capture beautiful selfies. The pixel size of the front camera is 1.4 µm and aperture ratio of f/2.2. It is also equipped with a flash and a wide angle lens. So, you can capture selfies with your friends in dimly lit club, without worrying for the low light.

Battery and TurboPower Charger

The Moto Z2 Play is powered by a 3000 mAh battery, which is able to keep you alive for a full day. But for any high end smartphone, this is not good enough. If Moto is thinking to compete with other flagship smartphones, than this will give the minus point in their pocket.

Although, they did not hold back with the charger, they are providing the TurboPower charger, which can charge your battery up to 50% in 30 minutes. So, the fast charging does make up for the lack of the battery.

Superior Performance

The Moto Z2 Play runs on a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 octa core processor. The processor on the Moto Z2 Play is not high end processor, but it is good enough to give you an excellent performance.

You are getting 4 GB of RAM in Moto Z2 Play, so this smartphone would be able to handle almost any task you throw at it, and it will offer you a smooth multi tasking experience.

With that said, lets move on to the storage of the phone. So, the Moto Z2 Play comes with up to 64 GB of internal storage, so that you can keep movies and songs to games and pictures within your pocket all time.

If that 64 GB of the internal storage is not enough for you, than you are going for another awesome ride, because the Moto Z2 Play supports the expandable microSD card storage up to 2 TB, which is on the dedicated slot.

Fingerprint reader

You can access your Moto Z2 Play with your fingerprint. So, just forget about complicated patterns and difficult to remember passwords, just keep your finger with you (If that is detachable) and unlock your phone with it.

Speed of the fingerprint reader on the Moto Z2 Play is just awesome, it unlocks your smartphone instantly, and not only that it is pretty damn accurate, so you don’t have to worry about security either.

This fingerprint reader also serves as the navigation button. It is your home button so, it is front mounted and working the double duty as the fingerprint sensor and the navigation button.

Moto Mods

This is very interesting part of the Moto Z2 Play, this smartphone can work as power bank, projector or a professional camera. So, you don’t have a professional camera, a power bank or a projector, don’t worry about it.

The Moto Z2 Play is compatible with Moto Mods and gives you access to a new world of possibilities. You can add a projector, Shoot with a 10x Optical zoom or instantly boost battery life by snapping the compatible Moto Mods.

Latest Android

The Moto Z2 Play runs on the Android v7.0 nougat OS, which allows you to view multiple apps at once in split screen mode. If you want to know about the Split screen multi window multi tasking with Android you can read my blog : Multi Window Multitasking in Android for any app

With the Doze power saving mode in the Moto Z2 Play you can restrict device functionality once the screen is off, which can make your battery life to last longer.

Moto Voice, Moto Actions and Moto Display

The Moto Z2 Play has the feature called Moto Voice, using that you can use just your voice to ask your phone for directions, information or answers. Although I think it is a bit of waste. Because we are having Android 7.0 Nougat on this phone, So you can use Google Now for those purpose.

Anyway, there is feature you are getting with, so it is on you whether you want to use it or not. Than there is Moto Actions, you can control your smartphone using smart motions and gestures.

For Example, If you want to open the camera, you can open it with the flick of your wrist. Or you can even turn the flashlight on by doing a chop twice.

After that, you are getting Moto Display feature. Checking your notifications and updates just got easy with this feature. You can get a preview of your notifications and updates without unlocking your phone.

If you are a fan of High End smartphones like Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8 Plus, LG G6, Xiaomi Mi Mix, Xiaomi Mi 6 and HTC U11 then this phone is not for you. This is a almost high end smartphone, but not the complete high end smartphone.

The Snapdragon 626 processor is not the high end processor, it is a mid range processor. So, according to that this could be a mid range smartphone, but considering the rest of the specifications this is a likes of high end smartphone.

That being said, the Moto Mods make it closer to the high end smartphone and it also has the latest Android software and all. So, if you are interested in mid range smartphone, this is yours. But if you are looking for high end flagship type smartphone, I would say wait for Moto Z2 to arrive.
